A Time for Renewal

By Dottie Tiejun Li, Editor-in-Chief

December is always a time to look back on the year that’s receding into the mists of the past and to peer into the year that’s coming. That’s especially true this year at Asian Fortune.

Asian Fortune lost its founder, publisher and guiding light this past year. When Jay Chen left us, suddenly and much too early, I lost a dear friend. Our publisher, Lily Chen lost a warm and loving father. And the Asian community lost a tireless advocate and a strong, vibrant voice.

No one can truly replace Jay, but I was asked to step in and help keep the project he most loved alive and well. And as we look forward to 2013, I am encouraged by the continuing support the Asian community gives to this news medium, both in print and online. You keep us strong. I want you to know that we are committed to maintaining and enhancing the role Asian Fortune plays in allowing us to see ourselves, to keep us in touch with our widely diverse community, and to remember who we are. Together, we have an increasingly important role to play in the economic, political, cultural and social life of the national capital region. Knowledge about our shared interests and aspirations can only enhance that mission, and we are dedicated to providing that information to you.

In the year ahead, we will continue to work on strengthening those bonds, to adapt to the new opportunities available online and with social media. There are exciting possibilities ahead, and I hope you will stay with us on the journey. As always, we will appreciate your thoughts on what we’re doing, and what you’d like to see us do.
From all of us at Asian Fortune, here’s a wish that you and your loved ones enjoy a joyous and meaningful holiday season. We hope you will find peace and renewal in your celebrations (and get some good presents, too.) May the best of fortune be yours in 2013!
