Washington, DC – No longer do DC residents have to cross the river or other state lines to pick up authentic Asian items. Toki Underground’s Erik Bruner-Yang has opened up a local-oriented and specially-curated Asian market inside the culinary landmark, Union Market.
The shop is a great resource for shoppers who may be unable or are just unwilling to travel outside of the District or anyone who may get overwhelmed by the vast selections in varied language sat the larger grocery shops in the surrounding areas. Items consist of a variety of staples, snacks, condiments and candies, as well as some of Bruner-Yang’s culinary creations like kim chi, nuoc cham and kombucha.
And, like just about all of the markets in Union Market, Honeycomb offers locally-sourced produce but with a focus on vegetables and fruits popular for Asian dishes, including Japanese eggplant, bok choy, and lemongrass.
And if anyone is still confused or curious, there is a helpful storekeeper willing to explain the products and offer suggestions on how to use them or even create some of your own culinary masterpieces.
Honeycomb is located inside Union Market at 1309 5th St. NE, Washingon, DC.
