Fairfax County Chairman Sharon Bulova and Springfield Supervisor Pat Herrity sponsored on September 21 the official launch of the book project by Vy Nguyen (center), “Second Generation Vietnamese Americans: A Comparative Perspective.”
The book will be Volume 3A of the historical research series of the Fairfax County Asian American History Project (FCAAHP), officially launched in 2008 by Chairman Bulova. Vy Nguyen is a law student at American University Washington College of Law and has been working with FCAAHP since its inception. She initiated work on Vietnamese American Youth five years ago. She said, “I welcome essays and photos from young Vietnamese Americans in Fairfax County.”
Author and Asian Fortune writer Jackie Bong-Wright received a Life-Time Achievement Award, the Golden Statue Peace Prize, from the Asian Culture Foundation. She was honored for her humanitarian and social work spanning six decades, as well her advocacy against human trafficking. She received the award at the World Conference of Women Writers and Artists, held in San Jose on August 16-18. Some 50 participants from Australia, Norway, Laos, the U.S. and Canada attended the event.
Jane Pan, Executive Director of Hepatitis B Initiative of Washington, D.C. (HBI-DC), received the Community Advocate Award at the National Viral Hepatitis Roundtable (NVHR) 10th Anniversary Gala on Thurs., Sept. 19 at the Omni Shoreham Hotel in Washington, D.C. She joined four other devoted health advocates as award recipients of the night.
Hung Nguyen, Virginia House of Delegates – District 67 candidate and special guests Congressman Gerry Connolly (VA-11) and Chairman of the Fairfax County Board of Supervisors Sharon Bulova celebrated Tết Trung Thu (Mid-Autumn Moon Festival) on Sep. 15. The event took place at Little Saigon Restaurant in Falls Church, VA.
