OCA Celebrates 40th Anniversary at National Convention

From July 18-21, OCA – Asian Pacific American Advocates hosted their national convention at the Omni Shoreham hotel in Washington, D.C. The convention included a preliminary screening of the documentary film “Linsanity”, workshops on activism, a politics plenary session, and a star studded gala, which closed the event.

OCA—Sacramento was honored as Chapter of the Year.
At the gala awards on Saturday night, OCA recognized Suzie Lee, Dr. Wah Sang Lee, Susan McKee, William Tran, and Dr. Xin Zheng for the OCA Unsung Heroes Award. They recognized Senator Mazie Hirono, former White House Cabinet Secretary and Assistant to the President Chris Lu, and Pulitzer prize winning journalist Jose Antonio Vargas for the OCA Pioneer Award. George Cha, Claudine Cheng, Ginny Gong, Daphne Kwok, and Michael Lin for the OCA Lifetime Service Award.

The event also recognized the achievements of many of the OCA chapters across the country. The OCA—Sacramento chapter took home the honor of Chapter of the Year for the second year in a row.
